About us

I am an independent health and safety consultant based in Leicester, working as the appointed competent person for manufacturing and industrial SMEs across the UK.

My background is on the shop floor, not just in the filing cabinet. I came up through manufacturing and engineering, including operational roles within global manufacturers such as Bosch and in aerospace manufacturing, before moving into advisory work with SME directors running high-risk environments. That is why I assess a business the way a regulator or an insurer eventually will – not only what the policies say, but whether the guarding, the extraction, the permits and the supervision actually hold up in practice.

Since then I have advised a wide range of manufacturing and industrial businesses through competent person agreements, both as Director of TIPS Consultancy Ltd and previously within an established health and safety consultancy. Working alongside a former HSE inspector sharpened how I read a site, and supporting clients through HSE enforcement notices has shown me what “defensible” really has to mean when a business is under scrutiny. One director summed up my approach as “refreshingly direct – no fluff, just what actually matters.”

I understand the legal duties placed on directors, and I understand the pressures that sit against them – production targets, tight margins, and controls that cost money and time. My job is to separate what genuinely matters from what does not, and to recommend measures that protect your people without stopping the line unnecessarily.

Manufacturing and industrial businesses are where I do most of my work and where I add the most value. I do advise SMEs in other sectors, but the industrial floor is my home ground.

I am a health and safety consultant, not a salesperson. I am straight-talking, I stay close to the businesses I work with, and I give advice that stands up to insurers, auditors and regulators. You deal with me directly throughout.

Outside work, I am part of Leicester’s sound-system culture – I built my own reggae sound system and play selections from my collection of 1980s and 1990s reggae at small venues around the city.
