What’s included

What your risk assessment support includes

One collaborative project to get your risk assessments written and your legal duties clear. Everything below is part of the service.

01

Free suitability check

A free, no-obligation visit to confirm we can help, understand your operations and agree the scope – single or multi-day, depending on your site.

02

Time on site with your team

We spend time observing your operations, processes and equipment, and talking to the people who do the work and those who manage it.

03

A collaborative approach

Your employees know the operations and hazards best. We bring an experienced eye to highlight the hazards that are easy to miss, and we document everything properly.

04

Hazard identification

We identify the significant hazards across your activities – machinery, manual handling, workplace transport, slips and trips, hazardous substances, work at height and more – relevant to your sector.

05

Risk assessments written for you

We physically write up your risk assessments for you, in clear, practical language, with sensible and proportionate control measures you can actually apply.

06

Built around your business

Assessments are tailored to how you really operate – not generic templates – so they are meaningful to your team and stand up to scrutiny.

07

Guidance on your legal duties

We explain what ‘suitable and sufficient’ means and what you need to stay on top of. The legal duty stays with you as the employer – we make it straightforward to meet.

08

Manufacturing & production expertise

Delivered by a consultant with hands-on manufacturing and production experience who holds recognised health and safety qualifications.

Priced by project, confirmed up front

Risk assessment projects vary by the size of your site and the number of assessments, so we give you a clear, fixed quote after the free suitability check. No hidden extras, no long-term tie-ins.

What you need to know

What to Know About Risk Assessment Support

Risk assessments are the foundation of managing health and safety – and a legal requirement once you employ five or more people. Here’s what to know about how our support works and where the responsibility sits.

01

Risk assessments are a legal requirement

Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, every employer must assess the risks to employees and others. If you employ five or more people, those significant findings must be written down.

02

We write them with you

We physically write your risk assessments for you – but it is a collaborative process. You and your team know the day-to-day operations and hazards; we bring the experience to spot what is easily missed and to document it properly.

03

The legal duty stays with you

Producing the paperwork does not transfer responsibility. It remains the employer’s duty to ensure each risk assessment is suitable and sufficient and that the controls are actually followed. Our role is to make that far easier – not to take the duty off you.

04

General risk assessment – not specialist surveys

This service covers general workplace risk assessment. It does not include specialist assessments such as fire risk assessment, legionella risk assessment or noise surveys – though we will tell you clearly if we think you need one.

05

Often an outstanding action

This is frequently an action left outstanding by a previous or current health and safety consultant. We will not take their role – we simply help you get your risk assessments produced and off the to-do list.

06

Suitable across many industries

We support manufacturing, production and assembly lines, engineering, vehicle repair garages and builders’ merchants, as well as offices, retail premises and community buildings. The approach is proportionate to your risks and scale.

07

Built on real manufacturing experience

Risk assessments are only useful if they reflect how work really happens. Delivered by a consultant with hands-on manufacturing and production experience and recognised qualifications, ours are grounded in the realities of your shop floor.

08

A clear, proportionate result

You end up with practical, proportionate risk assessments written in plain English – not gold-plated, not generic – that your team will actually use and that stand up if an inspector, insurer or customer asks.

09

Built by someone who understands SME pressures

TIPS Consultancy Ltd was founded by Kapil, who has a background in manufacturing and in directing SMEs. He understands how limited time and competing priorities can leave risk assessments unfinished – so this service is built to be practical and collaborative, getting the job done with you rather than handing you more to do.

In simple terms: we come to your site, work with your team, and write your risk assessments with you – while the legal duty to keep them suitable and sufficient stays with you as the employer.

Getting started

How Risk Assessment Support Works

Getting your risk assessments produced with TIPS is a clear, collaborative process – from your first enquiry through to assessments written up with your team. Here’s how each stage works.

Stage 1

Before we start

Confirming we are the right fit for your business – with no obligation.

1

Send us an enquiry

Tell us about your business, your site and the risk assessments you need.

2

Free suitability check

We arrange a free, no-obligation visit to confirm we can help and to understand your operations, processes and current arrangements. It’s a suitability check – not a sales appointment.

3

Quote issued

If we are the right fit, we send a clear, fixed-fee quote based on your site and the scope of the work.

Stage 2

Producing your risk assessments

On-site, collaborative work to get your assessments written.

4

Date(s) agreed

We agree a date – or several dates if the project will take more than a day – to carry out the work on site.

5

On site with your team

We spend time observing your operations, talking to your employees and management, and documenting your risk assessments. It’s collaborative: your team knows the operations and hazards best, and our role is to highlight the hazards that are difficult to spot and to write the assessments up properly.

6

Risk assessments delivered

You receive your written risk assessments in clear, practical language, ready to put into use. The legal duty to keep them suitable and sufficient remains with you as the employer.

Stage 3

Ongoing support

Keep your health and safety on track all year round.

7

Become your competent person

After the project we understand your business well, which puts us in a strong position to act as your external health and safety adviser. Many clients move on to our Competent Person Service for year-round support – with no obligation.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

A risk assessment is a systematic look at what could cause harm in your workplace, so you can decide whether you are doing enough to prevent it. You identify the hazards, decide who might be harmed and how, evaluate the risks, record the significant findings and put proportionate controls in place.

Yes. Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, every employer must assess the risks to employees and others. If you employ five or more people, you must record the significant findings in writing – and keep them up to date.

Yes – that is the core of this service. We physically write your risk assessments with you, on site and collaboratively. Your team knows the operations and hazards best; we bring the experience to highlight what is easily missed and to document everything properly.

No. We produce the risk assessments, but the legal duty stays with you as the employer: it is your responsibility to ensure each assessment is suitable and sufficient and that the controls are followed in practice. Our role is to make meeting that duty far more straightforward.

We support manufacturing, production and assembly lines, engineering, vehicle repair garages, builders’ merchants and other industrial SMEs, as well as offices, retail premises and community buildings. The approach is proportionate to the risks and scale of your workplace.

A risk assessment identifies specific hazards and the controls needed to manage them. A health and safety audit is broader – it reviews whether your whole health and safety management system is working. Many businesses start with risk assessments and add an audit later.

Yes. TIPS Consultancy is based at 249 Scraptoft Lane, Leicester (LE5 2HT) and supports businesses across Leicester and the wider Midlands, as well as UK-wide. Call 0116 456 7521 or email info@tipsconsultancy.co.uk to check availability in your area.

No. This is general workplace risk assessment. Specialist assessments – such as fire risk assessment, legionella risk assessment and noise surveys – are separate, more detailed exercises. We will tell you clearly if we think you need one and can point you in the right direction.

Often, yes. Producing risk assessments is a common action left outstanding. We will not take over your existing consultant’s role – we simply work with you to get your risk assessments written and completed, so it is off your to-do list.

You put the controls into practice and review the assessments when things change. Because we now understand your business, many clients move on to our Competent Person Service for ongoing external health and safety support – but there is no obligation.

Your risk assessments are produced by a consultant with hands-on manufacturing and production experience who holds recognised health and safety qualifications, so the assessments reflect how work really happens on the ground.
